Modality Description

CSL Therapy Incisional Drainage modality is a specialized treatment designed to support client during their initial recovery period following a plastic surgery procedure. This modality is performed by trained and certified therapists who adhere to the guidelines and scope of practice set forth by CSL Therapy Incisional Agency.

From Day 1 to Day 7 after surgery, CSL Therapists aim to promote optimal healing and lymphatic function in clients before they transition to PostOp-Indur treatments. The techniques employed in this modality are gentle, utilizing a pressure gradient ranging from 1 to 3 [on a scale of 10]. The primary focus is on stimulating and clearing lymph nodes while gradually moving fluid proximal to distal through the client’s tissue. It is important to note that although many lymphatic vessels may have been transected during the surgery, the therapy works towards encouraging fluid movement towards the still-intact lymph nodes.

To ensure the highest standards of hygiene and wound care, Incisional sessions take place in a prepped setting where personal protective equipment (PPE) is utilized. This not only guarantees the well-being of the client but also ensures proper client hygiene throughout the treatment. Trained therapists wear full PPE during the sessions, following CSL Therapy sanitation protocols and disposing of biohazard materials appropriately.

The duration of each CSL Therapy session ranges between 45 to 90 minutes, taking into consideration the individual needs of the client, the type of procedure received, and the client’s temperament. The iMedic therapist incorporates manual manipulation techniques, employing topical anti-inflammatory oils, creams, and conducting gels to mobilize soft tissues, including the skin, fascia, T-interstitium fluid, muscles, tendons, and ligaments affected by the surgical trauma. Special care is taken when working with active incisions to expel fluid while maintaining proper PPE care.

During non-treatment interactions, clients are advised to be fully clothed, and disposable garments are provided for the duration of the therapy sessions. Only Class 1 CSL devices are used on clients during treatments, ensuring their safety and comfort. While CSL Therapy offers direct complication diagnosis and prognosis within its scope of practice, it is important to note that this modality is not intended to identify conditions outside of CSL Therapy complications. In such cases, appropriate referrals are made to other healthcare professionals.

The therapists specializing in Incisional Drainage are well-versed in wound care and specialize in fluid dynamics. They provide fundamental client education, implement early phases of compression, offer dressing maintenance, surgical drain care, lifestyle shift recommendations, and supplemental directives to optimize the client’s recovery process. Additionally, treatments may incorporate the application of KT tape using non-sports tape adhesive strips.

In order to maintain comprehensive client records, therapists take measurements, photos, and SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) notes after each session. These records enable accurate tracking of the client’s progress throughout their recovery journey.

CSL Therapy sessions must conclude by Day 7 post-surgery, after which clients are advised to seek the care of a licensed professional specializing in PostOp-Indur.
