Lymphatic massage, also known as lymphatic drainage massage, is a gentle and specialized form of massage therapy designed to stimulate the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels and lymph nodes that helps the body eliminate waste, toxins, excess fluids, and foreign substances while supporting the immune system.
During a lymphatic massage, a therapist uses light, rhythmic strokes and gentle movements that follow the natural flow of the lymphatic system. This technique aims to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic vessels and nodes, facilitating drainage and reducing swelling or edema in specific areas of the body. This style is no longer appropriate [on its own] as a solution/treatment for postoperative swelling on cosmetic/plastic surgery clients due to the amount of heightened trauma + the inclusion of tumescent fluid.
