004.1. Medication and Supplement Awareness:
- Certificants and licensees shall maintain awareness of commonly used medications and supplements that may impact a client’s health or CSL Therapy treatment outcomes.
004.2. Client Assessment:
- Before suggesting or discussing any medication or supplement with a client, certificants and licensees shall conduct a thorough client assessment to understand the client’s medical history, current medications, allergies, and health conditions.
004.3. Educating Clients:
- Certificants and licensees shall provide clients with balanced and evidence-based information regarding the potential benefits, risks, and limitations of medications and supplements related to their specific health and treatment goals. While CSL Therapists are never to prescribe, diagnose, nor administer medications, clients may have questions about them; providers need to be versed on identifying needs, resources, and recommendations within scope of practice.
004.4. Non-Prescriptive Role:
- Certificants and licensees shall not prescribe medications or supplements, as this falls outside the scope of their practice. They may, however, offer general information and suggest that clients consult with their healthcare providers for personalized advice. Any supplements offered in office need to come with a posted label for a client to discuss supplement application with their primary care physician.
004.5. Ethical Recommendations:
- Certificants and licensees shall make recommendations for supplements and discuss a clients medications [that have been prescribed by a doctor] in an ethical manner, emphasizing the importance of consulting with a qualified healthcare professional before making any decisions.
004.6. Documented Communication:
- Certificants and licensees shall document all discussions related to medication or supplement suggestions, including client questions, recommendations, and referrals to healthcare providers. They shall also document any supplement purchases clients have made from them for liability reasons.
004.7. Non-Interference:
- Certificants and licensees shall not interfere with a client’s existing medications or supplements without the explicit knowledge and consent of the client’s healthcare provider, or extensive training outside of CSL Therapy.
004.8. Privacy and Confidentiality:
- Certificants and licensees shall maintain the privacy and confidentiality of client information, especially when discussing medications or supplements, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
004.9. Limitations of Knowledge:
- Certificants and licensees shall recognize the limitations of their knowledge and expertise regarding medications and supplements and refer clients to appropriate healthcare professionals for comprehensive advice.
004.10. Continuing Education: Certificants and licensees shall engage in ongoing education to stay informed about developments in medications and supplements as they relate to CSL Therapy.
Failure to comply with this Patient Privacy/Confidentiality & Public safety regulation may result in disciplinary actions by CSL Therapy, including but not limited to certification or licensure suspension or revocation, dismissal fines, and incarceration in accordance with CSL Therapy’s disciplinary policies and procedures.
This regulation shall be effective as of [September 18, 2023] and shall remain in effect until revised or updated by CSL Therapy.
