045.1. Thorough Handoff Communication:
- CSL Therapists shall provide thorough and accurate handoff communication during shift changes, transfers of care, or any other situation where the responsibility for client care is transferred to another healthcare provider.
045.2. Essential Information:
- Handoff communication shall include essential information about the client’s condition, treatment plan, ongoing care needs, and any significant changes or incidents that occurred during the previous shift or session.
045.3. Verbal and Written Communication:
- CSL Therapists shall use both verbal and written forms of communication to ensure that critical information is effectively conveyed. Written documentation should be clear, legible, and easily accessible to the receiving provider.
045.4. Client Safety:
- The primary focus of handoff communication is client safety. CSL Therapists shall prioritize sharing information that is relevant to the client’s safety and well-being.
045.5. Active Listening:
- Receiving providers shall actively listen to handoff communication and seek clarification when necessary to ensure a complete understanding of the client’s status and care plan.
045.6. Documentation of Handoffs:
- CSL Therapists shall document handoff communication in client records, including the date, time, individuals involved, and a summary of the information exchanged.
045.7. Timeliness:
- Handoff communication shall occur in a timely manner to ensure that there are no gaps in client care. Delays in communication should be minimized.
045.8. Standardized Processes:
- CSL Therapy may establish standardized processes for handoff communication, which shall be followed by all certificants and licensees.
Failure to comply with this Patient Privacy/Confidentiality & Public safety regulation may result in disciplinary actions by CSL Therapy, including but not limited to certification or licensure suspension or revocation, dismissal fines, and incarceration in accordance with CSL Therapy’s disciplinary policies and procedures.
This regulation shall be effective as of [September 18, 2023] and shall remain in effect until revised or updated by CSL Therapy.
