Before applying, ensure you meet the following eligibility sets:

Set A Standard BAA Certification Requirements 

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Submit a complete application
  • Have no felony convictions that compromise ethical standing
  • Applicants must not have any active license suspensions from other regulatory boards

To maintain your certification, all CiMs must comply with BCF’s recertification standards:

MBMA Membership: (required for the first year of certification) Membership guarantees our ability to represent you as a 501(c)(6) member and gives you industry voting rights

Recertification Cycle: Every 3 years via Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits

CPE Requirements: Earn credits through approved programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, or education related to incision care and post-op recovery

Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation. BCF may randomly audit submitted materials

Update Your Records: Notify BCF of any professional status changes or new contact details

Lapsed Status: Missing the recertification window may lead to certification suspension or revocation

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I don’t currently have a preexisting license in healthcare, massage therapy, or bodywork. Am I able to take this certification exam?

Yes, provided you meet all the specified prerequisites for the certification. This certification is designed to validate your ability of competency and awareness in specialized postsurgical care, rather than requiring an existing professional license. If you satisfy the outlined requirements and can demonstrate proficiency in client care, this certification confirms your competency to provide trauma-informed manual bodywork within the BAA iMedic Scope of Practice on clients recovering from surgery from Day 1-7.

With this certification am I able to perform other forms of bodywork?

No. This is not a license. Massage and other forms of healthcare are governed by state regulatory bodies. This certification is limited to BAA iMedic Scope of Practice.

With this certification, am I able to provide postOperative care and treatments on clients who are past Day 7 post surgical?

No. That requires a different certification (POI Clinician)

What if my application isn’t accepted?

The only reason your application wouldn’t be accepted is if you don’t meet all eligibility requirements; or if you have a current suspended license within another healthcare field. If this is the case, your application fee will be refunded minus a $60 processing admin and transaction fee with 30 days of application rejection.

Is this only for people in the U.S.?

No. Professionals from any country can apply as long as they meet the eligibility requirements and understand that scope expectations vary by region.

How do I schedule my exam?

Once approved, use your BCF ID to schedule your exam on the ExamOnline remote platform.

What ID is accepted on exam day?

A government-issued photo ID that matches your application—driver’s license, passport, or national ID. Expired or military-only IDs are not accepted.

Can I request accommodations?

Yes. Include your request and documentation during the application. It must be approved before exam scheduling.

What if I need to reschedule?

No fee if >31 days before the exam. $62.50 fee if 4–30 days prior. No changes allowed within 3 days. Missed exams forfeit the fee.

What happens during a remote proctored exam?

You’ll verify your identity, perform a room scan via webcam, and complete the test in a quiet, uninterrupted space.

How is the exam scored?

Each question is worth 1pt. You need 80% to receive a passing rate.

When will I receive my exam score?

Upon completing the exam your score will immediately be shown to you.

Will I know which questions I got wrong?

No. You will not be given information on exactly which questions you got right &/or wrong.

What if I fail the exam?

You can retake it up to 3 times within one year of your approval date.

How soon can I retake the exam if I don’t pass?

You may retake the exam in 30 days.

How do I maintain my certification?

Earn CPE credits every 3 years and submit them per BCF recertification guidelines.

What happens after I pass?

You’ll receive your passing certificate, digital badge, & dates to schedule your 30min complimentary legal regulatory review via email within 2-4 business days of passing. You will receive a formal decree proclamation and lapel pin in the mail within 30-45 days of passing.
